How many abstracts can one participant submit?

Each participant can submit two works (one presentation and one poster) that he or she will present. Moreover, a participant can be a co-author of any other submitted abstract. However, we would like to point out that the acceptation of the presenting author does not signify the automatic acceptation of all co-authors.

How many participants can give one presentation?

Presentations should be given by one person only. We encourage all co-authors to participate actively in the discussion after the presentation.

Co-authors who will not present the work should register as passive participants. If the presentation is awarded with any of the prizes in the competition for the best presentation, all co-authors present at the conference will receive the corresponding diploma. The prize should be divided by the awardees on their own.

How many authors can present a poster at a time?

In order to provide comfortable presenting conditions for all co-authors, as well as for poster session visitors, the rule of poster submission and presentation by one author only has been established.

Who can participate in “Symbioza”?

Every student of first, second or third degree, researcher, or any person who is interested in biotechnology or  related fields who wants to present their research results on the related topic, or just expand their knowledge in this area and make interesting contacts is perfectly welcome at IBS Symbioza.

In 2016 we increased the reach of IBS Symbiosis: although the main group of participants are still students and doctoral students from Poland, we kindly invite participants from all over the world. The 5th Symbioza will partly take place in English (most of the plenary and invited lectures, some presentations and posters), and partly in Polish.

I would like to participate in “Symbioza,” but I don’t have a good presentation topic. Can I come, just listen and broaden my knowledge?

Of course! The aim of “Symbioza” is to broaden the knowledge and integrate the academic community, so you are warmly invited, also as a listener!

How much is the participation in “Symbioza” and what does the fee cover?

The conference fee is only 95 zlotys. It includes the participation in all lecture sessions and presentations, 2 lunches, snacks at coffee breaks, book of abstracts, conference materials, participation in the integration party and the outdoor game. The fee is equal for active and passive participants. The fee does not include the participation in satellite events, e.g. workshops.

What are the requirements for the abstracts?

In order to make our conference even more pleasant, we decided to relieve the participants of formatting abstracts of the presentations and do it ourselves. We only ask to limit the length of the summary (not including the title, authors and affiliations) to 2000 characters (including spaces). Abstracts should be submitted by a web form, a link to which is sent in an e-mail confirming the acceptance at the symposium. Please do not send abstracts by e-mail.

Abstracts of oral presentations should be written in the same language as the oral presentation, i.e. presentations delivered in Polish should have a summary in Polish and presentation in English – English. All posters should have a summary in English.

Can I get an invoice for the participation in the conference?

The organisers of IBS Symbioza are not VAT payers, therefore they cannot issue such a document. All the conference participants who tick an appropriate box in the registration form will receive a receipt, which is a document equivalent to a VAT invoice and can be used e.g to be reimbursed by a university. More information about invoices and receipts can be found at the Ministry of Finance website: http://www.mf.gov.pl/dokument.php?const=1&dzial=144&id=238221 or on the Internet, e.g. at: http://www.porachunek .com / co_to_jest_rachunek_uproszczony

Can I participate in only one day of the conference for a reduced fee?

Unfortunately, there is no such possibility. Regardless of the number of days of actual participation in the Symposium, the fee remains the same. We kindly invite you to attend the entire symposium (with two lunches, an integration party, and an outdoor game included in the fee), and not just its parts. Also, please note that the possibility to register on site will be available throughout the symposium.

How can I participate in the conference?

  1. Giving a presentation (in English or Polish) on a laboratory research.
  2. Presenting a poster (in English) on a scientific experiment.
  3. As a listener (passive participation).

Poster preparation (4)

What are the requirements for the posters?

The size of the posters should not exceed A0 size vertically. The contents of all posters presented should be prepared in English. Of course, this restriction does not apply to the discussions with the authors during the poster session. Also the discussion with the jury choosing the best poster may be held in a language chosen by the participant.

How many authors can present a poster at a time?

In order to provide comfortable presenting conditions for all co-authors, as well as for poster session visitors, the rule of poster submission and presentation by one author only has been established.

When is the best time to display my poster?

We kindly ask you to display your poster not just before the poster session, but in the morning of the day it takes place. This way, participants will be able to easily read the posters during all coffee breaks and a lunch break on that day. Assignment to the poster session (and the stall number) is available in the book of abstracts and on the website under the Programme bookmark.

My poster is very heavy. What should I do?

For the convenience of the participants, we provide the possibility of storing the posters (regardless of their weight! 🙂 ) in a safe place both before and after the poster session. We only ask for signing the poster with the author’s name and surname in an easily visible place.

Logistics at the conference (6)

Where and when will the 5th Symbioza take place?

The 5th Intercollegiate Biotechnology Symposium “Symbioza” will take place from 22 to 24.04.2016 in Warsaw, at the Warsaw University of Technology (please see the Venue bookmark).

How to reach the venue?

The 5th Intercollegiate Biotechnology Symposium “Symbioza” will take place on the main campus of the Warsaw University of Technology, in its southern part by the Armii Ludowej avenue. This venue can be easily reached by public transport. The detailed information and the location map can be found in the Venue bookmark.

Does the conference fee include an accommodation in Warsaw?

The conference fee does not include any accommodation for the participants. However, thanks to the fact that “Symbioza” will be held in the centre on Warsaw, the accommodation offer near the conference venue is especially generous.

I cannot come to the conference opening. Can I register later?

Registration for the conference will be possible on Friday from 2.00PM and later throughout the lecture sessions.

Competitions, winners, publications (2)

Will there be conference proceedings?

At the moment, we do not plan any conference proceedings, especially no publications in scientific journals. Note, however, that each participant will receive the book of abstracts with ISBN number.

Are co-authors also regarded winners of the competition?

If the award goes to the work by many authors, the co-authors who have been accepted at the conference will also receive diplomas certifying the award in the competition for the best presentation (or poster). It is the person presenting the work, however, who is obliged to sign the protocol for receiving the prize. The awardees should divide the prize on their own.

Presentation preparation (2)

How many participants can give one presentation?

Presentations should be given by one person only. We encourage all co-authors to participate actively in the discussion after the presentation.

Co-authors who will not present the work should register as passive participants. If the presentation is awarded with any of the prizes in the competition for the best presentation, all co-authors present at the conference will receive the corresponding diploma. The prize should be divided by the awardees on their own.

What are the requirements for the presentations?

The presentation should take up to 15 minutes. After each presentation that does not exceed this time, there will be a five-minute discussion with the audience. Presentations should be delivered in English or Polish – participants are free to choose the language themselves. However, the language of the presentation should be consistent with the language of the abstract sent. All presentations in a session will be in the same language.
